| History of the company |
Back in 1969, when I first started to offer translation services, my entire equipment consisted of a small desk, a telephone and a typewriter.
The idea of a translation service was strange to many people in business and commerce, who thought it would be easier to engage translators themselves for a specific project. That was until they encountered problems and found themselves floundering in an unfamiliar world. That’s where I came in. I’ve always known that you need to match the job to the mother-tongue translator who knows the subject and who has kept up to date with their language skills.
Over the years, here at Head Office in the heart of Bristol, the service has become known for its reliability, energy, enthusiasm and professionalism, enabling businesses to communicate directly with clients in their own languages, in a clear and natural way. It’s more than providing a document that’s idiomatically and grammatically perfect – it’s about finding the right voice and personality for the job. With in-house translators and daily contact with principal freelancers and technical experts, we know who should be entrusted with each piece of work. By following this ethos, Sally Walker Language Services has expanded from those modest beginnings. The typewriter has long gone, as you might expect, and consistently investing in the latest technology has facilitated the ability of the company to take on a host of different projects. The unparalleled network of freelance translators has been carefully developed over the years. But the guiding principle remains the same - to use translators steeped in the modern usage of their language and who fully understand the environments in which their translations will be used.
